I'm Back Part 1: Courtney

These last few days have been a hectic whirlwind and I don't like it one bit to say the least. Our new apartment has a million issues and now to top it off our water has been turned off becasue the landlord or bast renter did not pay the bill and the realtor is out of town and cannot give the water company our lease to switch the info over so we are out of luck I feel and I'm freaking out and livid. We finally got internet though so I can at least show you some of the pictures of things that have happened of late. First is the mini shoot I did with Justin's little sister Courtney! There are a million sweet places by the new place, which is one of the pluses (i'm going to try and be positive--until I get another round of bad news, then I will probsbly have a melt down).

The 4th of July has always been one of my favorite times to celebrate and while this year sadly we are not in our new apartment with our grill to cook out we do have sparklers for later and I got some nefty silly and totally random garland from CVS for today (Pacha, you lucky little man you)! Leon & Emi: Take 2

Sorry I did not add these sooner, they are from the shoot on Saturday (see below for original post). I am still sick, now trying every holistic remedy possible to right getting a sinus infection I DETEST anti-biotic nonsense (given there are a few circumstances they are necessary). I digress, here are the rest of the images from the weekend. I adore them, I hope you do too.

Leon & Emi: Vintage Chic

This weekend after years of planning Leon finally came to visit for a photoshoot and brought his sister Emi along with him. Both have excellent classic style and are sublime models. We drive around the middle of nowhere for these...and all while I was sick. Unfortunately now I am much sicker and am laying in bed all day while justin is going home to get out grill from his parents. I guess this goes to show that such a vast amount of time planning really does make a big difference. Totally fabulous, amazingly fun.

Moving

We get the keys to our new townhouse when we sign the lease hopefully this weekend or Monday! That means lots of re-decorating for a much bigger space and without painting any walls, so go white! Woo! My goal is to design everything very DIY and inexpensively as possible...I am going to need a LOT of cans of spray paint...and a LOT of patience.

later i'll show you my ideas, I have a cold with only coughing and my chest hurts...

Courage

It's been 4 years now since i've stepped foot in the trailer which I found this book; nestled amongst other moth bitten covers and yellowing loose pages. The trailer was a modular building outside of the school's library where I worked, we only ever went into it to maintain, or access old books that were no longer in circulation on the main library. The 55 degree temperature helped maintain the books integrity, but the cold was less than bearable without a jacket. While organizing books to be donated, they said if there were a few I wanted I could have them. I made it a point to read all of the authors of the books left; unloved worn with time. One of J.M Barrie's books was left in that cold lonesome trailer. I pulled it from the pile. I'm certain my heart skipped a beat. There, in my hands was a copy of the 1922 rectorial address delivered at St. Andrews University. Topic, Courage. I examined it, sage green, crumbling outer cover. I let out a breath, brought it to my nose and breathed deep. The must of old books. Eye's closed I breathed in 83 years of ink, paper, dust and passions. J.M Barrie is most well known for writing the "not so childrens" classic Peter Pan. If you have read the original you will find it's not the disney classic you remember. It's well written, with a hint of early 1900's spunk and whit. The original book was published in 1906 after being adapted first into a play in 1904 from Barrie's other works. His growing popularity opted for a chance for him to deliver this address on something that is hard to come by today; courage. Page 39 of the address states, "Unless a man has this virtue, he has not security for preserving any other." He offers us true insight in this that I wish others would more often take. My realization is this. If you do not have courage, you will not be able to uphold any other kind of value or worth, without courage, you simply lack the capacity to stand up for what you believe to be tried and true. You do not have to be a great hero of war to have courage. All you have to do it stand up, take the blindfold from your eyes and the tape from your lips. Don't let people get you down. Preserve your valor, speak.

The Horse and The Cow

Today after work I found some cow and horses that seemed like they needed a little attention. The cows were a little scared but the horses loved me! They came right up to me and just looked at me un-bothered and ate all of their flowering weeks with joy. Beautiful horses they were; auburn coat and main. I can't wait to go back! Relaxing and wonderful at once.

Black Swan

This afternoon Justin accompanied me to one of my favorite places, in the hopes of photographing the black swan that lives in the lake. When we got there I was sad when I saw that he was not in the water, but then Justin spotted him sleeping in the grass. I hurried out of the car and was very careful to sneak up on him so that he did not get scared or bothered. Isn't he (or she) a beautiful swan? The perfect curvature of his ruffled feathers, the intensity of his crimson eyes, his up-side-down eyelids.
I simply adore him.
He is elegance. He is spectacular.

Happy Daddy Day!!!

Meet Daddy
(please note this collage is not the best quality or photography but it's a pretty funny montage of daddy and his funness)
video
Photobucket

Daddy is/has...
-a total PRO at planning! Seriously he might nag about times and details but really, he get's things DONE! Go you!
-on that note, taught me how to be a planning pro too :)
-is a great fisherman and fisherman teacher
-can fix I think anything
-an expansive knowledge of home repairs. I can call and say how to I remove carpet, or what kind of paint is non-toxic or what kind of plants should I get and HE KNOWS every time!!! It's pretty handy and pretty impressive.
-always listens to me cry when I have car issues and then helps me fix it
-is the best husband to little mama, it's so nice to see such a great guy (and that he's my dad)
-the perfect thick black hair (even if there's a little grey)
-does random funny things! like dancing with mama, or striking a pose for my camera, or even pointing a turkey leg as a gun.
-is intimidating in a good way...scarry man walking buy, creepy person talking to you? Dad's like a body guard, bring him and no bothers you
-on that note always gets stopped at the airport, because he looks tough. haha so funny!
-makes the best healthy food on the GRILL! like organic pizza and roasted eggplant
-grocery shops and does errands for the fam and never complains
-a great smile
-insane knowledge of nature and animals he's like a walking animal planet

Happy Fathers Day Daddy
I love you and thank you so much for always taking such good care of us!
I love you, you're the best.

I adore...

laying in the grass on a day when the clouds cover the sun.
(the lighting alarm went off too...oops)
Photobucket
Outside quiet time; laying stomach down in the grass chin rested on my hands, I get to see the things that are missed. There's just something about being on the same level with the billions of blades of grass sprouting up from the ground. There's just something about the smell of earth. There's just something about watching the tiniest of insects hide in what to them is a expansive jungle. That certain something is my *take a deep breath in, let it out slowly* feeling.

Sigh, i'd be doing that now if I was not cooped up inside, being made to wait for the FedEx Man :)

$20 Skirts for SALE

Photobucket

Brenna and Kelsey, dynamic twin duo, of Matinee, have decided to now offer their wonderful apparel to the public. The first design/item of Matinee’s ready to wear casual line is a basic figure flattering skirt.

Why is this the coolest skirt ever you ask? It is simple.

1. This high wasted skirt flatters all figures…it can hide your “poof”, while accentuating the smallest part of your waist.

It is offered in custom…

2. waist sizes, so simply measure, order, wear (details at bottom of post)

3. length to fit your height/taste

4. color (swatches available upon request)

Why shop Matinee?

Brenna and Kelsey are not your typical designers. They are not the girls trying to make it big in the fashion world by longing for designer handbags and copying the “in” style. They are a team that works to promote what will look best on YOU. They want you to be able to look in the mirror and say, “Wow, I look amazing in this skirt!” Not, “I love this skirt because my friend said the brand was cool”. PLUS they work hard to give you the BEST DEAL only $20 even though it's worth more, they are committed to helping you!

Shop Matinee and you get: custom creations, high quality, fresh perspective and the passion for design you will NEVER find on the racks of a department store.

Don’t be a cookie cutter buyer.

Support two women whose goal is to make you feel and look marvelous.

Shop Guilt Free?

100% of your purchase goes to fund Brenna and Kelsey in seeking a Bachelors Degree in Fashion and Costume Design at SCAD (where they were accepted but as of now cannot afford to attend), they can’t do it without your support and they are so entirely thankful for purchasing a skirt and/or making a donation.

Thank you for blessing the designers of Matinee with the chance to pursue their talents and passions.

Today you helped make a dream closer to a reality.

Post Away from Home

It's 8:15am, I'm drinking coffee Daddy got me, scanning the pictures on my camera, and typing on mom's laptop at the fams house. I've been awake now for 2 hours and 30 minutes. That means for all you non-math people (like myself)that for today's shoot my models, BK, and I woke up at a personally, quite astonishing time: 5:45am. Wowzers, I know. I did their makeup until 6:35 then Daddy drove us to the beach (our personal driver). We arrived at the beach at 6:45 and begin the sunrise shoot. Dying to know the theme? Alright, alright, stop your nagging and complaining. Brenna and Kelsey made bathing suites with an authentic vintage pattern from the 70's, thus the shoot was dedicated to vintage swimwear and beachy fun! Can't wait to show you the product of sleep deprivation and an overly active imagination.
I was so cought up in the shoot that I almost forgot that yesturday was Bren+Kels' Cirque themed Grad party! UM HELLO, can you say, FABULOUS! They of course had the perfect deocr, most delish food i've had in my life and looked beautiful in the process. Plus they made me a Matinee origunal! I got a skirt! I can hardly hold in my joy and containment, notto mention adoration for my new skirt! It's a perfect fit and its length is casual enough to wear with a tank for long enough for a fancy occasion! Marvelous-0!

New Fossil Shades

Photobucket
Justin came home today with a gift from fossil for someone (sorry cannot tell!)and I realized that it was only one item.

Justin: (extreme guilty face) "Nothing."
Me: "You mean to tell me that you did not make it a two item sale?"
Justin: (beaming now in his guilty red super smiley face)
Me: "You better not have gotten me anything"
Justin: (chuckles)
Me: "It better not have been expensive"*
Me: Sigh, turn back to the computer
Gift Fairy: POOF glasses appear over my shoulder...
oh dear, oh deary!

*Note: On contrary to what most women want, I despise getting expensive gifts

However I have loved these for a very very long time, so I am also very thankful and excited.

Soft

I got to thinking about the things I love about photographing the outdoors...one of my all time favorite things as got to be soft muted light on foliage. It's delicate, feminine, classic look is just appealing on so many levels. In this light you can really see the fragility of a simple weed or tiny bloom, while simultaneously seeing it's strength in being strong enough to captivate you.

Confetti, Cotton Candy & Lanterns

It was a day I thought needed a little spunk and spice and thus after working on odds and ends things all day, when Justin was home from work we embarked on a skateboard adventure (camera and props in bag). Moments which I personally love are throwing in the air my newspaper recycled confetti, cotton candy clouds the billow up into the sky, water fountains, and of course a lantern in the woods. I adore moments where I can see the cool breeze on my face, while skateboarding with Just in this pit of humidity. I adore moments where I can take photo's as I please of the wackiest things I choose. I adore moments of relaxation, peace and tranquility. I adore days like today.

Why I hate where I live...

This is the main reason why I hate it here. I feel like wealthy tourists who cannot drive, cut you off at the grocery with their carts and match each other have taken over the better part of the world (and by the way I adore elderly people so this says a lot about the state of this city). What in the world?! Seriously? Call me mean that is totally fine by me...that just means you do not live here.

Well anyways I really like it this time, give it a look! Oh and also my vintage skirt was only $2! Rocking cool and the buy was totally Brenna+Kelsey inspired and so flattering too, thanks girls for the insight!

Water + Rain Photoshoot

We had a totally hysterical and fun shoot today...we started off in the rain and ended at the pool. I could talk about it for hours but I have lots to do before our day trip to Lakeland tomorrow! The first picture was a super funny story which cannot be left out and went something like this. I'm sitting on the edge of the pool looking at Suzy's face trying to think of what to do next, I make concerned faces sometimes when I think, Suzy noticed. She asked when was wrong and I realised what I was doing. She said she thought I was looking at her mad! Ha! When really I was stairing at her pretty face wondering wether or not we could get a drop of water to rest on her lashes. She agreed, and I love it. I think the rest of them are pretty self explanatory.

I finally found it

I went to Blockbuster yesterday with the plan to purchase a previously viewed movie (in general when I do this I leave empty handed because all of them are lame and i'm only ever really looking for this one special movie I completely and whole-heartily adore). I was flipping through the stack of "A" movies when a plastic shrink wrapped emerald green box caught my eye. There it was, after an entire year of searching, her perfectly cut bangs and black bob contrasting with her porcelain skin and her cherry red lips, snickering. If you have not yet guessed, it's Amelie! And as if that was not exciting enough, she was only $6.99! What, what! I am pretty sure I gasped out loud, I might have even screamed, Justin further down the isle came running over thinking I was hurt? Who knows. He didn't get why I was so happy, he doesn't do subtitles and doesn't speak french.

Brenna and Kelsey our beautiful fabulous wonderful sisters have a SUPER birthday! We love you and are so thankful for you. Hug a cartoon character for me (ridden with kid germs) at Disney and take some fun pictures (should I beg, I know you will conveniently "forget" a camera!).

Love you both,
